Week 1B

Today in class we started by going over the article that was assigned for homework. When that was done we assigned responsibilities for the upcoming IIDCON in September, I was assigned the job of creating a playlist for the event. I’m not totally  sure what music I will put in yet, is high energy what a conference needs or should it be low key background music. I will probably make two playlists, one more high energy for transitions and one more background for more lunch background. After going over assignments we went through two power points on mobile apps. A mobile web app uses specific device features, a mobile web app is an app that runs on a mobile web browser, a hybrid phone app uses embedded browser technology to access web content, and a mobile website is a scaled down responsive web page. The different functionality of apps include Info apps, Lifestyle apps, mobile gaming apps, and Augmented reality apps. Then we broke into our teams for the app development project, my partner is Brynna. We did two team building exercises a blind drawing and creating a list of 12 items we’d take to survive on a desert island. Our first blind drawing did not go well but we started to improve, for the list we had six similar items.

Week 1A

Day One

Today we were introduced to the course on as a whole, going over the syllabus and expectations. Some key points were that James prefers if we come and talk to him in person if we have questions instead of just sending an email. Also we are allowed five missed days before the potential to automatically fail the course starts. His idea behind this was that no matter what your excuse after missing that much class time you will not have learned enough to succeed. After all of the house keeping we talked a little bit about what will happen in the course. As far as I can tell there are two projects in the course. The first is to design an application with a partner and and the second is to design a website by yourself. I do not think that the website needs to actually function totally? I was not entirely sure about this. The last thing in class was a mini lecture. I learned what a Ui/Ux designers means after seeing it means times in the past and never bothering to look it up. It stands for user interface/ user experience, meaning that its a designer who focus on how the user interacts with a product. The most important take away from the lecture for me was that style comes second and the user comes first. I know that I tend to focus on style so this will be a challenge for me.
