Week 15b

Today in class my website was critiqued. Here is the feedback I received:

-The contact section is very effective, it shows you everything that you need to see.
-Add a hover element for the social media links. The hovers can match the colors for the rest of the site.
-Give the copyright section at the bottom more breathing room from the social media links, also there is too much space between the kickstarter button and the social media links.
-Good use of shape and color. This makes the webpage relate to the product which is effective.
-The composition is well organized.
-Works? (I wrote this down but I can’t remember the context.)
-The text in the large blue triangle is too close to the edge and creating edge tension.
-The triangle being on top of some elements and behind others is and effective use of the Z-axis.
-Since the product is about photography have more images on the page.
-At the top of the page the triangles are a bit too bright and distract from the logo.
-Add a set footer to the page to signal that it is over.
-The light animation where it turns on and off is a nice effect.
-Another comment about text edge tension with the blue triangle.
-At the top of the page vary the dark triangle sizes a bit.
-Add more line spacing for the paragraph at the top of the page.

-Split the larger images into several smaller ones.

Week 15a

Today was a day for lots of small changes to the website. For the top image I added some dark grey triangles to the top image to break up the edges even more. This was part of a compromise with Professor Pannafino. Then I realized that I needed to proof read my content still so I went back and fixed a bunch of errors there. I added a hover effect to the Color spike illustration so that it now looks like the light lights up when you hover over it.  I aligned some text a bit more carefully, made my rule lines smaller, added a rule line to the unordered list. At the bottom of the page I edited the picture of Duncan and Steve a bit so that it fit into the page better, and I also changed my submit button to match the larger Kickstarter button. At the very bottom I added some trademark info to close out the page.

Week 14 Out of Class

This week out of class I finished up my web page. The first thing that I had to do was to complete all of my missing content like the GIF of the lights and the button link to the Kick Starter page. Once I had all of that in place I went back and messed around with the spacing between areas. For the most part I added more space because a lot of the content felt crammed together. The largest change I made was to change the Second and Forth content areas. I made them have a very light grey background instead of the dark one they had before. I thought this really helped each area stand out more because there was a clear separation of zones. For the Second area I continued the Triangle motif, but this time I made the triangles huge so that the different scale helped to highlight the area. I am really proud of how this effect turned out, I think it gave the website the little something more that it was missing. For Monday in class I need to go through and proof read my content because I was told it is full of errors.

Week 14b

Today in class we had lots of time to work on our web project, and I got quite a bit done. With the help of Professor Pannafino I managed to get the triangles for the header to appear on top of the main image. This helped to break up the hard edge of the image compared to the dark sides. I changed my pig picture so the the corner is cut off to match the angles in my logo, and I added a triangle to the top corner to tie in with the triangles in the header. Then I made an illustration of the color spike to place next to the details about it. I'm still not crazy about and I'm not sure why. My next step for it might be to make it totally flat and see if that helps. After that I made up the image for the app part of the product. The images for the app were sadly smaller then I wanted, so I made a triangle pattern to fill the space behind them.  This might require a little more tweaking to perfect. Another large change I made was to add a subtle triangle pattern behind content area two because I felt that, that area was looking a little boring. Finally Im continuing to play around with text size and line spacing.

Week 13 out of class

Thanksgiving break, see Week 14a

week 14a

Today in class we had lots of work time, and we each met with Professor Pannafino to look at our progress. Over break I had finished laying out the webpage and begun to style it with my colors and typefaces. In class today I started to add images, colors and shapes to my site. I had to edit the images first to make them colorful and look like they used the product. Then I had to play around with my typeface to separate content better and to add line spacing to increase legibility. I also had to change the typeface for my logo because it looked to close to the body typeface, and therefore looked bad. I ended up just changing it to the same typeface as the body. I also started to make a triangle overlay to break up the harsh edges of the pictures on the website.
